Aintree Dress Code

If you are heading to Aintree Racecourse for the 2014 Festival and you haven’t had the pleasure of being there before, it’s understandable, particularly for the ladies, if you haven’t a clue as to what to wear.

The official line from the racecourse on the dress code is that “We have no strict dress code but smart dress is preferable.” and by smart dress they mean don’t turn up in a tracksuit and trainers!

Ladies Day is the second day of the festival, on the Friday, and to keep in the spirit of things it is advisable to wear a hair piece or a hat and a very nice dress or smart pants suit.

One of the highlights of Ladies Day is the Matalan Style competition with some lavish prizes on offer and the 2012 contest attracted a huge entry of over 2,500 with the top prize going to Kelly Platt who wore a vintage black dress that used to belong to her granny.

She accompanied the dress with a custom-made hat and black heels from Top Shop and collected £5K for her trouble!

Think smart, stylish and above all pick something that makes you feel fantastic and if you’re in one of the stands make a bit of an effort but don’t worry if budget is an issue, it’s not about the money, it’s about the style.

Remember this isn’t Ascot, they’re not going to turf you out for not looking the part although having said that, you really don’t want to end up in the ‘worst-dressed’ pics in the papers the next day so make an effort and you’ll have a great day.
