If you’re looking for a rank outsider to put a few quid on for the 2011 Grand National then Piraya is my tip to you. Initially it doesn’t look good on paper – French, 8 years old, mixed form etc… but here’s the kicker – this is Piraya’s second Grand National and last year, in 2010, despite being only 7 years old at the time, he finished in 13th place and is also trained by David Pipe!
Another year on, more experience under his belt, an incredible Champion Trainer by his side, a solid jockey in Johnny Farrelly and only carrying 10-04 – things could really look up for this horse!
Last year, he was already at a disadvantage as far as the race trends are concerned as there has not been a seven year old winner since way back in 1940. This year he returns to Aintree as an eight year old, but some serious concerns over his form having pulled up on both of his last two starts.
A long shot but keep an eye on him – if he doesn’t do it this year he’ll be a very serious contender next year.
2011 Grand National saw Piraya, once again, complete the Aintree course but this time in 19th position but with two-for-two completions under his belt and still only coming on for 9 years of age, he is going to be a top tip for 2012 if he is entered – horses that have previously gotten around this course are far more likely to be successful on future outings!!
