Neptune Equester Pointed At National

The Brian Ellison trained horse Neptune Equester has quickly progressed into a very exciting novice chaser. A very good tidy display of jumping landed Neptune a Handicap Chase over 3m 4f at Haydock this weekend. Despite Carrying top weight Neptune jumped all 22 fences in good style, and still had enough in the tank to give jockey Danny Cook more when asked.

To call this an impressive display would be an understatement. For much of the race Neptune Equester was held up at the back, forced to make headway by taking the widest path around the field of 10 runners. Once through the traffic he switched inside to chase leader approaching 3 out, then switched right between last 2, lead runner ‘Morning Moment’ looked to have the race won, but Neptune hunted him down in fierce fashion – Check out the video of the race.

After the race trainer Ellison said: “I’ve always thought he was a National horse, especially now his jumping is getting better and better. These are hard races, so we’ll freshen him up and have a look at Christmas or January.

“He’ll run again and win again, I hope, before he goes for the National. That will be the long-term plan.”

This is a horse I’d love to see running in the Grand National, at eight years old he might be a little young to be a contender. However, if he continues to progress in this style at some point he will mount a serious challenge. One to watch out for!

Neptune Equester is owned by Koo’s Racing Club and shares in him are still available… ummmmm.
