In late November of 2011, Planet Of Sound finished a hard-fought second to Carruthers in the Hennessy Gold Cup Chase at Newbury. After the race, trainer Philip Hobbs said that the gelding might come right back to race at Cheltenham in December. Instead he opted for Kempton before heading to the 2012 National.
Having been ridden exclusively by jockey Richard Johnson since 2008 Richard Johnson, the only blip in the Planet Of Sound career was when he had a breathing operation during the summer of 2011 and only raced twice that year.
Planet Of Sound began his career in 2007 and broke his maiden in his second race after a good third in his first. He raced four times in 2008 and collected two wins and came right back in 2009 to win over the same distance at Newbury. He ran a total of five races that year and managed one more win as well as two shows and a place.
Planet Of Sound is an twelve year old bay gelding by Kayf Tara. He is trained by Philip Hobbs and owned by Mr C G M Lloyd-Baker. He ran a great race in 2012 to finish in 12th place and despite being entered for 2013 Grand National for which he was given 10-12 by the BHA Handicapper, he was withdrawn and ran in the John Smith’s Handicap Chase at the festival instead.
He made his seasonal return in January 2014 at Kempton where he beat out nearest rival Jump City by two lengths for the win and although entered into the 2014 Crabbies Grand National was subsequently withdrawn at the first scratching stage on February 25th.
