The Midnight Club may not have produced the epic performance at the 2012 Cheltenham Festival that trainer Willie Mullins was hoping for. He only managed a ninth place in the Gold Cup but then again if he was never going to win it then getting around the course successfully could have been the perfect preparation ahead of the 2012 Grand National.
[Racecard The Midnight Club]
This will be his second shot at the Grand National, having finished in sixth place last year behind ultimate winner Ballabriggs. He carried 10-13 then but this year has only been given 10-08 this time around which is an added bonus for the Mullins yard.
According to Roger Loughran, who works on the staying chaser, he is beginning to feel a bit like his old self. He is coming back to something approaching the form that saw him run with tremendous credit when sent off 15/2 favourite, having been badly hampered at the fourth from home when looking as though he was about to get into contention.
Can he do it again? Lighter weight, but 11 years old? A good Cheltenham run but nothing outstanding, if he’s not too tired he could be a decent each-way bet however he could also be up against Synchronised who is currently in a class of his own!BET NOW - CLICK HERE
