Psycho

Of all the horses that hope to line-up for the 2012 Grand National, Psycho is probably the one with the least amount of headlines or punter chat. I’m not quite sure why because he’s a terrific horse who’s been given a decent weight of 11-00 by the BHA Handicapper and one who’s on decent form.

14 chase starts returning five wins and a second place, Psycho is 11 year old trained by AJ Martin and owned by the McClure Family Syndicate. This season has been particularly good for Psycho and started in November with a second place at Clonmel, followed up by two more second places at Cork and Downpatrick.

In January he finished fourth at Fairyhouse behind Blazing Tempo in the Normans Grove Chase before encountering a blip at Punchestown when he unseated his rider before coming back to Down Royal and finishing fourth behind other Grand National hopeful Killyglen.

On the less positive side of things, he has never won or been placed in the top three beyond 2m4f, in fact I’d go so far as to say that his most successful distance is 2m which could account for the lack of buzz about him this year.

He also prefers the ground on the softer side of things so whether he can overcome those particular obstacles in light of his recent decent form, well, that will be answered on the day, if he runs. Odds on him are currently 66/1 with Paddy Power so obviously they don’t think so!
