Rare Bob

From the Dessie Hughes yard came Rare Bob in 2013, an eleven year old Irish horse who ran in the 2012 National but was brought down at the fifth fence under jockey Bryan Cooper.

Between the 2012 and 2013 renewals he had four races, the first of which was only two weeks after Aintree in 2012, at Sandown, where he finished in 8th spot and then he took a break and came back in January 2013for his seasonal reappearance at Thurles in Ireland where he finished 6th from 16 runners in the Leugh Handicap Hurdle.

He followed that up with runs at Fairyhouse and then at Naas where he finished 3rd, while carrying 11-10 which meant that the odds on him shortened for the 2013 National very quickly.

He went off in 2012 at 40/1 and with a decent prep season behind him in 2013 he went off at 16/1 again with jockey Bryan Cooper on board who managed to successfully navigate the Aintree course and steer him home in 5th place which bagged connections a nice £25,838 for their troubles.

Now at 12-years-old for the 2014 Grand National he’s still going well for jockey Bryan Cooper who has run him out at both Cheltenham and Gowran Park already this season but it should be noted that both of those were Hurdles, not chases.

His Official Rating had taken a dip since last year so despite already having run in two Grand Nationals he wasn’t entered for the 2014 renewal.
