With such high profile races run throughout the year at the likes of Aintree, Cheltenham and Ascot, many forget the smaller racecourses and tracks that are home to a huge amount of prep races for the Grand National Trainers.
The prizes may be smaller but the jockeys are the same and the trainers can still rack up an enormous amount of wins and purses and none more so than the recent evening races at Bangor-On-Dee which saw wins for Donald McCain Jnr, Philip Hobbs, Jonjo O’Neill and Nicky Henderson.
The first race was won by The Mad Robertson, 7/2F and trained by Jonjo O’Neill, the third was the Donald McCain Jnr trained Cordillera who went off at 9/2. The fifth race was a win for both jockey Richard Johnson and trainer Philip Hobbs when The Disengager romped home at 5/1 with the AP McCoy Shadow Dancer in close 2nd.
The final race fo the evening was McCoy’s only win of the evening when was on board the Nicky Henderson trained Forgotten Voice who went off at 13/8.
So for the big jockey names, champion trainers, and an up-close-and-personal view of some of the greatest horses in their field, check out some of the smaller tracks around the country!
