Fresh off the back of his recent 11/1 win in the Coral Welsh National at Chepstow, many had thought that the Michael Scudamore trained Monbeg Dude may take his chances in the 2013 Grand National but it seems that is not going to be the case.
Connections have identified another John Smith's Grand National trial, at Haydock on February 16th, as their flagship chaser's next target while again stressing that Aintree is unlikely to be considered this season.
Monbeg Dude, who is owned by a syndicate made up of Rugby union stars including Mike Tindall, James Simpson-Daniel and Nicky Robinson, gave the Scudamore family a third generation win at Chepstow with both Michaels father and grand father having also won the Welsh Grand National previously.
Trainer Scudamore said “Given the way he jumped at Chepstow the Grand National would almost certainly come too soon for him so I think we'll resist the temptation even to enter.
“He is only eight and has plenty of time to run in a Grand National. Before Saturday we had been thinking that if everything went well the race we would target would be the Grand National trial at Haydock.”
