Seabass Makes Seasonal Return

Last year's third place finisher, Seabass, is on course for a seasonal return to the track as he gets an entry for the Hennessy Gold Cup at Leopardstown on February 9th, just days before the BHA Handicapper announces the weights for this years Grand National.

The card reads like a who's who from the racing world and Seabass will have his work more than cut out for him if they all line up on the day. With Tidal Bay, Sizing Europe, Flemenstar, Albertas Run, China Rock, Sir Des Champs, Kauto Stone, Quito De La Roque, Quel Esprit and Prince De Beauchene just some of the other entries, Seabass will have to dig deep to produce the goods, especially if the weights go against him.

Now 10 years old, the Ted Walsh trained Seabass is currently 20/1 to win the race, which is a far cry from the 6/4 that the joint favourites – Flemenstar and Sir Des Champs have been given.

By coincidence, 20/1 is also the ante-post odds that he has with Paddy Power bookmakers for the Grand National which, given his performance last year, may be the more successful of the two upcoming races for him.

No word on who will partner him yet but if Katie Walsh can get onboard and give him another nice run out then she should be favourite to ride him again on April 6th at Aintree!
