Back to back victories are not a regular occurrence in the Grand National but winning jockey Daryl Jacob is going to give it everything he has to make that particular dream come true as he partners the Paul Nicholls trained Join Together on Saturday.
[Racecard Join Together]
Ruby Walsh may be Paul Nicholls first-choice jockey but he's almost certain to ride the Mullins runner On His Own and Daryl Jacob is more than happy to capitalise and pair up with Join Together for his boss.
Speaking in The Express he said “As long as nothing more happens to the Mullins horses, the plan is for me to ride Join Together,
“And he’s a cracking ride and I’m very much looking forward to it. He gave me a good ride in the Becher Chase. He got bogged down on the heavy ground round Melling Road but got going again once he hit better going with two to go.
“When Paul runs horses in the race they generally have a chance. I schooled him the other morning and he’s in great form and I’m really hopeful of a real good run.”
And though some question the ability of Seabass to seriously contend again given his rise in weights and the fact that he's a year older, Jacob reckons he's still the one to beat saying “They went very fast last year and Seabass was up there all the way in the firing line,
“Pause the race two out and he looked like the winner and, if they hold on to him a bit more he definitely has a chance.”
And though he may be riding a horse who Grand National Odds just keep shortening , he also likes the look of the Rebecca Curtis trained Teaforthree saying “He is another horse I’d be worried about if the ground dries up.”
Join Together will run off a very winnable 11-02 on Saturday.
