When Auroras Encore romped home in the Grand National earlier this year, the 66/1 winner had the bookies smiling like Mon Mome did in 2009. Only a clever few had put their hard earned cash on him and as he hadn't even been secured a spot in the final line-up of 40 until much closer to the race date, he had also been over looked by many of the pundits over the previous months.
But with first time Grand National jockey, Ryan Mania, on board he ran a great race and gave trainer Sue Smith her first Grand National title and now as part of the post-National celebrations, Auroras Encore is being celebrated and paraded at the Great Yorkshire Show on 11th July.
It's a welcome home of sorts for the Smiths, with Harvey, who trains Auroras Encore with his wife Sue, having won the prestigious trophy in 1977 and 1982. So to come back with a Grand National winner must be an incredible rewarding and proud moment for both of them.
Auroras Encore will parade around the main ring on the final day, just before the start of the event’s top showjumping competition, the Cock o’ The North championships and the Show Director, Bill Cowling is certainly happy about this booking saying “We’re absolutely delighted to have Auroras Encore and indeed our friends the Smiths with us.
“I can’t think of a more fitting setting than our main ring to celebrate the success of this amazing horse.
I’m sure there will be a phenomenal reception from the grandstand crowds.”
And maybe, if you're in the area, you might fancy tagging along and spending a great day at the event which will also host some of show jumping's biggest stars including Michael, John and Steven Whitaker, Guy Williams, William Funnell and Tina Fletcher.
