Lucky shoppers at Liverpool One bagged free Grand National tickets over the festive period. Aintree racecourse placed fifty pairs of tickets for Ladies Day in a range of retail outlets throughout the shopping centre. Customers were rewarded with Tattersalls tickets for one of the most popular days in the racing calendar.
The giveaway marked the 100 day count down to the 2014 Grand National, which is on the 5th April. The free tickets were a fantastic way for Aintree to generate publicity for the upcoming race. Nevertheless, the organisers aren’t relying solely on their generously to bolster the crowd. Racecourse owners (The Jockey Club) have just launched a new advertising campaign designed to highlight the three day festival which starts on the 3rd of April and ends on the 5th with the Crabbie’s Grand National.
The focus of the ad campaigned is to drive ticket sales for the whole festival and not just Grand National day. Called ‘The Grandest Show, The Great Drama’ the adverts highlight the unpredictable nature of the National and encourages attendance with the strap line ‘What the world watches, you can be part of’. The television campaign is back up by ‘Megarear’ bus ads, these ads will appear on the back of buses across the North West.
“The megarear adverts are very eyecatching and it will be impossible to miss them in the run-up to the festival,” said Jockey Club North West Regional Director John Baker.
Aintree also announced via its Facebook page that their promotional team will be out and about in the city centre (Liverpool) for the next few months promoting the Crabbie’s Grand National.
It’s already looks like Aintree are going all out to make the 2014 renewal one of the most successful in modern times. Tickets for many premium areas on Grand National day have already sold out, the Princess Royal Roof, County Roof, Queen Mother Roof and Earl of Derby terrace are no longer available to order online. However, don’t panic if you haven’t got your tickets yet. Our very own Facebook fan page will be running a competition to win a pair of tickets in the now sold out County Roof area – considered by many to offer the best view of the race. Make sure you ‘Like’ our Facebook page to find out about the competition.
