Nine-year-old Rubi Light has all but been ruled out of the 2014 Crabbies Grand National after trainer Robbie Hennessy advised that he had disappointed over his last run out.
He went to Clonmel on February 20th for a trip over hurdles but never quite got into the race and though he ran home, it was in last spot from five runners.
A Grade One winner in his prime, he had been given an entry into the National but it now looks certain that he will bypass that, and may even be finished for the rest of the season.
Hennessy said: “He's finished now for the season. He's just not been sparking.
“He burst (a blood vessel) at Leopardstown in December, but we thought we'd give him a chance at Clonmel.
“Andrew (Lynch, jockey) said he was never travelling so we'll give him six months and get him right again.
“He had a great first run back at Gowran, but he's clearly not 100 per cent right. He'll be taken out (of the National) on Tuesday, but there's always next year.”
