At 10 year old, Becauseicouldntsee, was attempting his third Grand National on April 6th 2013, having fallen in the 2011 Grand National, when he ran under jockey Davy Russell and unseating his jockey Davy Condon in the 2012 renewal.
Trained and owned by Noel Glynn, he was handicapped with 10-08 in 2011, 10-03 for the 2012 race and 10-06 for 2013 which had put him in a reasonably competitive position.
He had six run outs in the 2012/13 season, prior to the National, starting back in November 2012 when he finished 6th at Punchestown and he followed that up with a 3rd place at Thurles but then things went down hill slightly with two consecutive pull-ups at Cheltenham in December and in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas.
Despite that blip, he came back to run two good races at Fairyhouse and then at Cheltenham when he finished 5th in the Fulke Kim Muir Chase and with the withdrawal of so many horses at the second stage of the National scratchings he officially made the top 40 and was guaranteed a spot on the starting line-up.
Despite that his OR was still pretty much the same at 140 and he went off at odds of 66/1 with jockey Martin Ferris on board but couldn’t see out the trip and was eventually pulled up at the 21st fence.
He may give it another shot for the 2014 Grand National but we’ll have to wait and see.
