Owned by Trevor Hemmings and currently trained by Malcolm Jefferson, having been trained by Paul Nicholls until 2009, this is a first Grand National entry for eight year old King Fontaine.
With positive results so far this season, including two wins at Haydock in November 2010 and a 5th place at Haydock in March, he is certainly a horse to keep an eye on this year. His record for Chases is impressive with four wins from 10 races as well a a 2nd and a 3rd place to his name.
He has also run and won at distance over 3 miles which is almost a prerequisite for any serious contender in the Grand National – stamina being a key feature or all past winners.
With a generous handicap from the BHA of just 10-06 and Denis O’Regan on board, King Fontaine is a good solid horse but may not have the experience to win this years race.
King Fontaine completed the 2011 Grand National course, finishing in 11th position and at just 8 years old showing he absolutely has got what it takes to potentially win this event in the future. A few more races, another year of training and a decent handicap in 2012 and he is definitely going to be up there as a favourite.
