Golden Kite is the Irish 9 year old trained by Adrian Maguire who is taking on his first Grand National this year. Very much an Irish based horse, he rarely runs in the UK so his entry may come as a surprise to many but heritage, age and proven stamina on his side, despite mixed form, he could be one to keep an eye on.
He performs best at around 3 miles and this distance has certainly provided him with the most wins and while he likes Good going, it’s not a deal breaker but check on the day before putting any money on him.
I would like to say he’s a contender but his form says otherwise. Coupled with his lack of experience in the UK and his hectic racing schedule, I don’t think he is being trained exclsuively to win the 2011 Grand National in the same way that some of his fellow runners are.
You can get him at long odds of about 66/1 but I think you’d walk a loser if you backed him.
2011 Grand National was not as disappointed for Golden Kite as some had predicted. Having safely navigated the course, he finished in 16th place but was never really in contention so whether or not he will be entered again in 2012 is debatable. We will just have to wait and see!
