A handy little horse, Royal Rosa will be taking a second shot at the Grand National title in 2011, having already entered in 2010 before unseating his rider at the 14th. He was also entered in 2009 but didn’t make the cut for the final 40 so will it be third times a charm? At 12 years of age with poor form, it is highly unlikely.
Trained by Howard Johnson, this is undoubtedly Royal Rosa’s last attempt at the National and having recently entered a similar race, back in January, at Chepstow – a Class 1 Grade 3 Handicap Chase where he was pulled up, it doesn’t look like he has what it takes to win a race of this caliber.
Bookies appear to agree with me as odds on Royal Rosa are around 100/1 – that doesn’t necessarily mean anything though (remember Mon Mome) but it is a good indication. Keep your money!
2011 Grand National runner Royal Rosa did better than many had expected by completing the course and finishing in 18th position – which was certainly better than a lot of the better backed horses did. But at nearly 13 years of age, he won’t be back in 2012.
