The 2011 Coral Welsh National was won by ‘Le Beau Bai’, it was a two horse race between the eventual winner and the much fancied Giles Cross. Le Beau Bai was relentlessly in his pursuit of Giles Cross and was able catch him at the penultimate fence, pushing on to give trainer Richard Lee a famous victory.

“This is a race I’ve always wanted to win,” Lee declared. “We train on the Welsh borders, and to come here and win the Welsh National is a fairytale.”

The ground at Chepstow suited Le Beau Bai, who is often described as a ‘dour stayer’ in the racing press. However, the back pages will be filled with praise for the 10/1 shot after a near faultless round of jumping on difficult ground.

1st Le Beau Bai (C Poste, 10-1 )
2nd Giles Cross (Denis O’Regan, 15-2 joint-2nd-fav)
3rd Cappa Bleu (Paul Moloney, 25-1 )
4th Bench Warrent (Gavin Sheehan, 50-1 )

Once again tipped up another winner in a National. Adding the Welsh race to our success in the Aintree Grand National last year!
