Known predominantly as a Cheltenham horse, where he has raced on ten different occasions, Midnight Chase is 11-years-old and trained by Neil Mulholland. With some spectacular winning seasons under his belt, his most recent form doesn’t quite reflect how good he is.
Midnight Chase has won five times at Cheltenham and although he was entered into the 2012 National, he was handicapped very high and subsequently withdrawn by his trainer as he had opted for the Cheltenham Gold Cup instead.
Midnight Chase began his career in 2007 with a win and started four times in 2008 with two wins. He started six times in 2009 and recorded two wins. In 2010, he started in nine races and racked up six wins.
Making only three starts in 2011, Midnight Chase did not get a single win that year and he fell in the Grade 1 JNwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal. He competed in the 2012 Gold Cup but couldn’t go any better than his fifth place in 2011, managing to only finish 7th in a race that saw Kauto Star pulled up, Long Run unable to really compete and Synchronised win a first Gold Cup for owner JP McManus.
Back again for 2013, Midnight Chase is an eleven year old bay gelding by Midnight Legend out of Yamrah. He is owned by Lady Clarke and trained by Neil Mulholland. Midnight Chase has 12 wins out of 28 lifetime starts, as well as 2 seconds and 5 thirds and has been given 11-00 by the BHA Handicapper for the 2013 Grand National.
Despite a decent weight, connections saw fit to scratch Midnight Chase from the 2013 Grand National at the second stage on March 19th 2013.
