With the 2012 Grand National getting ever closer, and only two scratching deadlines remaining, trainer David Pipe is aiming to have three of his horses line-up in the starting 40 on Saturday, April 14th 2012.
Pipe, who won the 2008 National with Comply Or Die, plans to run Junior, The Package and Swing Bill on the day. Swing Bill still lies outside of the top 40 but only needs three horses above him to be withdraw to secure a spot.
Junior is the highest weighted of the three horses having been given 11-02 and the nine year old is currently one of the bookmakers favourites, despite punters questioning his jumping ability particularly around a course as difficult as the Grand National.
The Package, despite Pipe’s warnings that he has yet to decide if he will indeed get to the National, also requires five horses to above him to be withdrawn but that hasn’t stopped the odds on him shortening from 40/1 to 25/1.
Swing Bill has by far the largest odds at 50/1 but if David Pipe has been schooling him with the Grand National in mind then things could turn around for him on the day.
