The Coral Welsh National which was due to be run on the 27th December has been called off due to flooding on the Chepstow course. The Clerk of the course made the decision after inspecting the course today at 12:00. The Clerk said “We needed some periods of dry weather between the rain” adding “The Welsh National is one of the most testing races of the year and we have to make sure it is safe to the horses”.

The race has been reschedulued for the 5th January. The Welsh Nationsl is no stranger to bad weather, in 2010 it was postponded due to heavy snow and in 1994 the race had to be run at Newbury on New Years day.
