Katenko Out Of the 2013 Grand National

Though I’m not fully certain that he would have even been left in the running for the 2013 Grand National, it seems that we’ll never know in the case of the Venetia Williams trained Katenko who has been withdrawn due to injury.

Primarily aimed at the Cheltenham Gold Cup for which he was as short as 18-1 following back-to-back wins at Sandown and Cheltenham, Katenko had to undergo an emergency colic operation last week which has ruled him out for the rest of the season, which of course includes the Grand National as well.

Trainer Venetia Williams contacted the Morning Line last Saturday morning reporting that he’d come through the surgery well but would not run again this season but at just 7 years of age, he still has plenty of opportunities for both the Gold Cup and the National and with his climb of 29lb in the handicap, he was quite heavily weighted by Phil Smith this year anyway at 11-04 which is quite hefty considering his young age.

Williams, who won the Grand National with Mon Mome, has one entry left in contention and that is Summery Justice who remains outside of the top 40 in 63rd spot so is still waiting for quite a few entries to be scratched before any certainty as to whether or not he can run on the day and that’s probably why he’s 66/1 with Paddy Power!
