Jessies Dream the Gordon Elliott trained entrant in the 2013 Aintree Grand National suffered a leg break during routine work on the gallops earlier this morning.
Trainer Gordon Elliot speaking to the Racing Post said “Unfortunately he broke a hind leg up high behind this morning and I just feel so sad for everyone in the yard and especially [owner] David Johnson, who was good enough to send the horse to us in the first place,”.
Jessies Dream had narrowly missed out on landing the 2011 RSA Chase, the horse held special memories for Elliot who added “It’s such a pity as he was due to run next Saturday and was heading for the Grand National all being well. He gave me my first Grade 1 victory so obviously he holds a special place in my heart. He was plagued with injuries all his life and he never got to fulfil his potential.”
Speaking last month to the Daily Telegraph Elliott seemed hopefully that the horse would make it to Aintree “He’s been off two years with tendon problems, so we’re going to go steady, steady with him. Unfortunately, like so many good horses, he’s been plagued by injury. He’s obviously got a lot of ability.”
