Some horses capture the imagination of the public like no other and after what can only be described as an amazing career, a real punters favourite, Cloudy Lane, has been retired.
Trained by Grand National winning trainer Donald McCain and owned by Trevor Hemmings, Cloudy Lane has had a spectacular career and now at the age of 13 and after having had his last run in the John Smith’s Fox Hunters’ Chase yesterday, he’s heading for lush green pastures and a lovely retirement.
The news was announced via Twitter when McCain tweeted “Cloudy Lane in one piece this morning, will now have a happy retirement, I owe him the world.”
Cloudy Lane finished ninth in the Fox Hunters Chase, a race he had won at the Aintree Festival last year and had previously attempted the Grand National itself on another three occasions with his best finish coming in 2008 when he finished 6th to the winner Comply Or Die.
Earning connections in excess of £235K throughout his career and winning eight of his 29 chase starts, while placing in a further six of them, Cloudy Lane is a truly great horse who will be missed on the racing scene.
Happy retirement Cloudy Lane!
